  • OK hand gesture removed from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone

    Infinity Ward quietly removed the OK hand gesture on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone. 

    Eurogamer provides the analysis as to why the OK sign was removed. In September 2019, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) added the OK sign in a list of hate symbols. The ADL found out that some use the gesture as a “sincere expression of white supremacy.” In the past, 4Chan trolls pretended the sign had a hidden meaning to create controversy. However, this all ended when the OK sign was indeed used by movements, hence changing meaning. 

    Eurogamer and Activision did not give any comments about this. 

    The OK sign was launched in early 2020. Some used it as a trick shot. The player’s character will do the OK sign with their left hand while firing the gun on their other hand. 

    The sign became famous, with fans and players alike uploading videos where their characters do the OJ sign as they end a multiplayer match or go for a final kill. 

    Infinity Ward replaced this gesture with “crush.” There is no change in the official patch notes. But players have sharp eyes, and it did not take long for them to see the gesture’s absence. 

    Players theorized that the removal of the OK gesture is due to the ongoing #BlackLivesMatter movement. Just a few weeks ago, the developer pledged to crackdown racism in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. They also inserted a message supporting Black Lives Matter into the game. 

    Activision and Infinity Ward are not the first to do this. In April 2019, Blizzard told a fan in the Overwatch League Arena that the OK sign is not allowed. 

  • Call of Duty Leak reveals Villain’s Return for Season 8: Apocalypse Day

    Call of Duty: Mobile season 8 was leaked, and a classic Modern Warfare villain will make an appearance. 

    Dexerto reports that since its release in October 2019, Call of Duty: Mobile took some of its best features, including weapons and maps, and wrapped it all up. The mobile title is still in its seventh season of content. With high expectations for the upcoming season, many fans are searching for information. 

    The developers have already teased the newly added Highrise in its season 8 multiplayer map. However, the name of the new season and the new character was leaked too early this time. 

    Fans and players were able to get a glimpse of a teaser image, courtesy of Garena, who published the game in Southeast Asia. The image indicated the name for the next season in the photo’s top left-hand corner. It read Apocalypse Day. 

    In the middle of the photo, there was a shadowy figure. Many still see the idea as farfetched. However, hardcore fans theorized that the shadowy figure is none other than Makarov.

    For new fans, the Russian villain played an indispensable role in Modern Warfare 2 and 3’s storyline. Therefore, he will be a perfect addition for Call of Duty: Mobile’s season if ever it is him. 

    This isn’t the first time that Garena did this. Previously, at the start of season 7, they let the info on the Radioactive Agent leak. It raises speculation that it is an intentional leak. Information about Call of Duty future seasons may, or may not, be leaked as well.

    Call of Duty: Mobile Season 7 is in its final week. Season eight will arrive on Saturday, July 11.

  • Latest Call of Duty update is bigger than some people’s hard drives

    Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s update causes an uproar after patch 1.23.0 turns out to be bigger than a lot of people’s personal computer hard drives. 

    Before, ByBerry reported on the 84GB update file that had Activision start an investigation. Now, with Modern Warfare’s patch 1.23.0, it is obviously intended to be that way. The 84GB update is small compared to the update now. Yes, Modern Warfare’s patch 1.23.0 is 200GB. That’s bigger than some computer hard drives. Not only that, but the uncompressed update file will not even fit a 25- GB SSD.  

    Under Reddit’s r/pcgaming, vanillaricethrowaway posted a screenshot of Modern Warfare install folder in their PC. The total file size came up to 209 GB. PC Games also reported that their Modern Warfare folder turned up taking a chunk of their space. The file took up 235 GB on their older HDD. Even with a terabyte-plus size hard drive, that is still too much. 

    Reddit never fails when it comes to discussions on games. Theories of the uncompressed file, along with complaints, are found under the thread. With the massive update, people with 500 GB hard drives are bemoaning about Modern Warfare. One user suggested that the optimal setting is to have a 500 GB system setup with 1 TB for fast storage. 

     People compare this to Destiny 2. Destiny 2, despite being predicted to have a massive 165 GB mark, only reached 68 GB, minimum. The updates on Destiny 2 include additional Shadowkeep. Modern Warfare’s patch includes a newly increased 200-player count for the Warzone’s Verdansk map, which is not that much in other’s opinions.

    Users are now forced to budget their storage spaces. Redditors have already started deleting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from their computers while others upgraded their systems to cater to the change. Some speculations of uncompressed data being easier to process on lower-end systems have been circulating, but people still think that this update is unreasonable.
